Trail riding is now open on a limited basis
AHF continues to support our programming by offering trail riding in the Greater Rochester, NY area.
We begin each ride with a horse-to-rider pairing and a short lesson in one of the riding rings. We then head out on the trails for a fully guided 1 hour trail ride at $80/person.
We accommodate riders aged 14+ in groups of 2-4.
Answers to FAQs:
- A Horse’s Friend offers guided trail rides for groups of 2–4 riders.
- Riders must be at least 14 years old and be able to steer and control their horse independently. Horses cannot be lead by a person on the ground
- We do not ride double – only one rider per horse
- Rides are scheduled by appointment only by phone at (585) 298-6519 and at least 24hrs in advance. Please arrive 20-30 minutes prior to your appointment and call if you are running late.
- Pay using CashApp, Venmo or credit card when reservation is made. No refunds, but ride can be re-scheduled with 24 hour notice only.
- There is a 200 lb weight limit. Our sweet horses can’t handle any more than that – thank you for your thoughtfulness.
- Helmets are required and provided.
- We are strictly a walking trail ride, we use western saddles and are appropriate for beginners.
- Long pants and boots are highly recommended. No open-toed shoes. Please dress appropriately. We recommend wearing bug spray and/or sunscreen (seasonal).

Ride Cancellation Policy
- The AHF staff has the right to refuse a rider if weight (>200), safety, or ability to follow directions is an issue.
- AHF may cancel or reschedule a ride due to thunderstorms, severe weather, unsafe trail conditions, or other circumstances that may affect the safety of riders, volunteers, or horses.
- If AHF needs to cancel or reschedule a ride, we will contact the reservation by telephone. All rides are non-refundable once purchased but can be rescheduled for a different day. The rescheduling policy does not apply to late arrivals or no-shows.
- If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you will provide at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows AHF adequate time to notify staff and volunteers.
